Kuwait discovers commercial quantities of hydrocarbon materials at offshore field
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has recently announced the discovery of significant commercial quantities of hydrocarbon materials in the Al-Jlaiaa offshore field, located within Kuwait's territorial waters. This discovery marks the latest in a series of successful explorations, further strengthening Kuwait's position as a leading oil and gas producer in the region.
The discovery, made at the Al-Zubair geological trap in the Cretaceous period, was confirmed through tests at the Jlaiaa-2 well, which forecasted substantial productivity. The field spans an area of 74 square kilometers and contains approximately 800 million barrels of medium-density oil, free from hydrogen sulfur gas and with a low carbon dioxide content. Additionally, it holds 600 billion standard cubic feet of associated gas, equivalent to around 950 million barrels of oil.
This new addition to Kuwait's hydrocarbon reserves significantly enhances the country’s energy outlook, following the earlier discovery of the Al-Nokhaza maritime field in July 2024. The Al-Jlaiaa field is a key part of Kuwait's ongoing exploration strategy and will play a crucial role in boosting future production and energy forecasts.
